What is Nightingale Housing and the Village?
What exactly is Nightingale Housing? Founded by Jeremy McLeod from Breathe Architecture, Nightingale is a triple-bottom housing model with a focus on providing financial, social and environmentally sustainable housing in Australia. Nightingale Village is exploring how these ideas and principles can be applied at a precinct scale, with 7 different sites on Duckett Street in Brunswick.
The Design Emotive will be presenting a series of three episodes, releasing in 2022 after the completion of the village. Each episode will focus on a specific aspect of Nightingale Housing and the village.
Episode 1 will be an in-depth look into Nightingale’s overall approach, their principle of ‘build less, give more’, and the design and interiors of several apartments.
Episode 2 will go into detail about the sustainability aspects of individual buildings, and the village as a whole, how it promotes a more sustainable lifestyle, how the village is carbon neutral in operation, and more.
And episode 3 looks at the community of the village, how Nightingale helps to foster a sense of neighbourhood, how they’re built for people and not investors, and if it is possible to design a community in an apartment.
This video is a mere introduction to Nightingale Village, with the docuseries being the focal point.
